One thing that I continue to struggle with (and I’m sure I’m not alone in this), is keeping up on my *own* personal photos. When busy season is in full swing, and editing for clients is prioritized, the images of my own family sometimes fall to the wayside. I’m always trying to think about ways to keep up on this, and this past spring, a sweet and talented photographer friend of mine (thank you K.C.!) gave me the idea for writing a monthly blog post focusing on my own family. She’s taken some beautiful pictures of her family – and not only has this inspired my own ideas, but has inspired me to pick up my camera with my family more often and capture more of the everyday moments! With that said, here are some images from our family for the the month of June 2014.
June is always a busy month around these parts! :) We started off with a couple of weeks of swim lessons…and were blessed with some pretty amazing weather for early June!
My oldest loves to bake, and she was VERY proud of her first attempt at cake pops! I was proud of her too! :)
My youngest is ALL about her stuffed animals. Loves them. Arranges them. Talks to them. Brings her special ones with us on many outings. One night, she lined them all up proudly, and I couldn’t help but grab my camera. It’s just the sweetest thing.
In the middle of June – we had even MORE amazing, beautiful, warm weather….and we tried to take advantage whenever time would allow.
This girl….always at peace on the water….
And this one….well, she gets a little excited to be on the water! :)
I didn’t have my long lens on for this one, so I really had to zoom in later….but it just makes me laugh so I’m going to share it. :)
The final days of 1st grade…I volunteered during Writer’s Workshop every Thursday, and brought my camera in during my last week there. Morgan would LOVE it when her sharing day would land on the same day as my volunteer day. Sweet memories…
We had some really low tides during the middle of the month, so the girls and I took some time to go explore….we explored, dug holes, and played and saw SO many things.
During our last week of school, Morgan received a very special gift from a very special teacher….our girls have created there own school in our playroom, so she proudly found a place for her gift and placed it on the “teacher’s chair.”
And finally……..school was OUT!!! And we were just a little bit excited about it……HOORAY FOR SUMMER!!!
During the first few weeks of summer, I tried to have as many unscheduled, spontaneous outings as possible….so one evening, we headed out for a walk, and ended up running, playing, exploring….
When they stopped to rest…Macy asked if she could try this pose – I wish I had video of her trying to coach little sister into position. :)
At one point, the girls were so happy….they started dancing, giggling and twirling in a field. It made my heart so happy to watch them.
It’s been a great start to summer…as the busy summer shooting months are upon us, I’m going to make every effort to keep up on these personal images. I always make sure to put down the camera and play just as often as I pick it up, but I want to make sure that these special memories don’t just sit in folders on my computer. Hopefully keeping up on these monthly posts will help transfer into getting these into an annual family photo book…..maybe, just maybe….it’s an ongoing effort & challenge!! :)
Wishing everyone a very happy summer full of joy, adventures and laughter!!
